About Shannon

Proud mother and beloved wife, happily retired educator, avid reader, active gardener, cooking and culinary enthusiast, fashion fan, swimmer.

Shannon was born and raised in New Waterford, Nova Scotia, Canada, where she currently resides.

She started teaching in 1963 at New Victoria High School in New Victoria, Nova Scotia, transferring to Mount Carmel High School (1968-70) and later moving to the newly constructed Breton Education Centre in New Waterford, Nova Scotia where she taught mathematics and pre-calculus for the next 24 years. Shannon enjoyed her years as an educator and hopes to have contributed positively in the lives of her students.

Starting in the mid-1980s Shannon introduced and taught a new computing science course at her school. She adapted existing curriculum for the course which included learning to program in BASIC using the personal computers available at the time, Commodore PETs.

She served as Breton Education Centre’s Department Head of Mathematics from 1989 until her retirement, served on the graduation committee for the majority of her time at Breton Education Centre and coached participants for Reach for the Top.

Shannon holds a BA from St. Francis Xavier University.  Through the late 1970s through the early part of the next decade Shannon enjoyed modelling new fashions by Schwartz of New Waterford at their annual fashion show.  She is a former lector and Eucharistic minister for her local church and in her spare time she enjoys travel, trying new recipes, reading, gardening and swimming.
